Paramount Plus has just enriched its catalogue with an action-packed ‘epic’ that viewers are claiming is worth the subscription alone.
The 2024 blockbuster, Transformers One, has just been added to the streaming platform’s offerings and is available for viewing as of today (May 23).
This animated prequel to the popular Transformers series delivers a riveting backstory for its legendary characters.
The plot synopsis reveals a tale of a young Optimus Prime and Megatron, back when they were not only friends but shared a brotherly bond, forever altering the destiny of their home planet, Cybertron.
The film promises to unveil their hitherto untold origin story, long before they became sworn enemies.
At the helm is Academy Award-winning director Josh Cooley, known for his work with Pixar. His credits include co-writing Inside Out and directing Toy Story 4, which earned him an Oscar.
A star-studded cast lends their voices to the characters, reports Surrey Live.
Chris Hemsworth steps into the role of Orion Pax, the youthful Optimus Prime, while Brian Tyree Henry voices D-16, who later becomes Megatron. They’re joined by an impressive ensemble including Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm.
Having premiered in cinemas just last year, the film garnered positive reviews from critics and fans alike. Many have hailed it as one of the franchise’s finest instalments, with some even suggesting it surpasses the live-action adaptations directed by Michael Bay.
Rotten Tomatoes has lauded the film with an impressive 89% rating, while audience approval soars with an enviable 97% on the popcornmeter. Critics are universally praising the movie’s ability to entertain a diverse array of viewers and please both long-time series enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
One reviewer extolled: “Blessed with a strong, well-developed screenplay, the film boasts funny and engaging characters, inventive and eye-catching design, and tells a decent all-ages science fiction adventure.”
Another expert proposed: “Whether you’re steeped in the lore, a fan of the live-action franchise, or a coming in with zero knowledge, Transformers One is a vivid adventure certain to capture – and keep – your attention until the credits roll.”
Meanwhile, another asserted: “The TRANSFORMERS franchise needed this film! A stunning animated origin story that showcases the beauty of friendship and the heartbreak of betrayal.”
Cinema-goers have also taken to social media to express their adoration for the latest installment, asserting its supremacy over previous films in the franchise.
A thrilled fan shared online: “Transformers One is arguably the best Transformers movie yet, even proceeding the much loved 2007 original as well as the highly rated and well received Bumblebee in 2018. The movie is definitely a lot better and more impactful when you have watched through all the other transformers movies but even casual viewers, who haven’t seen any transformers films or even just the 2007 original, the movie is still very enjoyable and can still follow and understand everything in the story.”
A fan made an emphatic declaration, exclaiming: “It’s worth getting Paramount+ so you can watch this film. After watching the Michael Bay films, and Rise of the Beasts, it is nice to have this one which shows them on Cybertron. I really enjoyed seeing the amazing friendship between young Optimus (Orion Pax) and Megatron (D-16).”
Elsewhere, another enthusiast weighed in with their glowing review: “Transformers One completely blew me away. This animated epic delivers an exhilarating mix of action, heart, and stunning visuals, making it an unforgettable ride from start to finish.”
Transformers One is streaming on Paramount Plus, Sky Cinema and NOW.
