However, despite this common misconception, some of the best films ever made have been sequels. Screenwriters can use tactics like character growth and mixing genres like action with comedy to keep the audience engaged and make the sequels triumph over their predecessors.

10. Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
This American Gothic sci-fi horror film is the sequel to the original Frankenstein. This time around, the Bride of Frankenstein sprinkled in the campness that Frankenstein could have done with. This film is widely considered as a benchmark when it comes to monster movies and its themes of queer subplot, feminist plot points and meditations on necrophilia past the ratings board.
9. From Russia With Love (1964)
This is the second installment of the Bond franchise, and some would say it’s the best Bond film. It did well to boost the franchise into what it has become and allow it to be taken more seriously. Many fans believe Sean Connery to have been the best Bond actor to date.
