A portrait of retired Gen. Mark Milley, whom Donald Trump has suggested is guilty of treason and should be executed, is no longer on the wall at the Pentagon. Just a few hours after Trump’s inauguration Monday, a CNN reporter observed a bare spot on the wall where the portrait of the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had been first displayed just ten days ago. Milley was among those pardoned preemptively earlier Monday by former President Joe Biden, who said in an accompanying statement that the pardons “should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense.” Monday’s occurrence in the Pentagon isn’t the first instance of Trump’s animosity causing a prominent portrait to not be displayed. During his first term, he neglected custom by refusing to have a portrait unveiling ceremony for his predecessor, Barack Obama.
