New Disney blockbuster banned in Lebanon as star on boycott list | Films | Entertainment

Every now and then, Disney movies are banned in non-Western countries, often for depicting LGBT people in a positive light.

Now, the controversial Snow White remake has joined their ranks, but for a different reason that doesn’t involve titular star Rachel Zegler.

Israeli actress Gal Gadot plays the Evil Queen in the new blockbuster and is an outspoken supporter of her homeland.

As a result, Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar has banned Snow White from screening.

The ban is amid Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah in the region, which have resulted in civilian deaths.

Speaking with Variety, a rep for Middle East distributor Italia Films noted that Gadot has been on Lebanon’s “Israel boycott list” for a long time and that none of her movies have ever been released in the country. Similarly, Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World was banned from screening in Lebanon as it features Israeli actress Shira Haas.

Snow White is out now in UK cinemas.
