This psychological thriller series may have ended more than five years ago, but it has garnered a huge following since and now there are hopes it could return. Popular series Mindhunter was first released in 2017 and ended after just two seasons, with fans being left disappointed.
Now, in an interview with CBR, Holt McCallany, who starred as Agent Bill Tench, has revealed that the show could be returning as three Netflix films. The series‘ synopsis reads: “Mindhunter is a crime drama series set in the late 1970s that follows FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench as they pioneer the field of criminal profiling by interviewing incarcerated serial killers. The show explores the psychological aspects of these murderers to understand their motivations and apply that knowledge to solve ongoing cases. The series delves into the early days of criminal psychology and profiling within the FBI, showcasing the challenges and breakthroughs faced by the agents as they navigate departmental skepticism and personal struggles.”
While promoting his other new show, The Waterfront, McCallany said: “So look, you know, I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it’s just a chance.
“I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.”
It is a very promising statement for fans of the show, with the majority feeling the series was undeservedly cut.
McCallany added: “And I felt very fortunate and privileged to have gotten to do that show at all. I would love it if it were to return.
“I think, like I said, you know, he gave me a little bit of hope when I had that meeting with him, but the sun, the moon, and the stars would all have to align.”
“The good news is that we’re at Netflix with The Waterfront, and those movies would also be for Netflix. So I think that in terms of dates and logistics, it could all be worked out, but it has to do, you know, with David really having the time and the inclination and being happy, you know, with the material.
“And, you know, that’s a big question mark,” McCallany explained.
Mindhunter is available to stream on Netflix.
